Alicante
Alicante is a Spanish wine region located in the southeastern part of the country in the Valencia region, along the Mediterranean coast. The area, which achieved its official Denominación de Origen (DO) status in 1932, is geographically divided into two primary subzones: the coastal area of La Marina and the more inland Vinalopó. The climate is predominantly Mediterranean with hot, dry summers and mild winters, but moves towards a more continental climate further inland. The vineyards are often planted on mountain slopes and hills with calcareous soil, which ensures good drainage in the sunny and low-rainfall environment.
Wine production in Alicante has roots dating back to Roman times, but the region experienced a significant golden age in the 19th century. When the vine louse (phylloxera) ravaged the French vineyards, Alicante functioned as a major supplier of wine to France, helped along by its strategic location as a port city on the Mediterranean. Today, the region's production is especially centered around red wines, where the local and drought-tolerant grape variety Monastrell plays an absolute leading role. In addition, white wines are produced from grapes such as Moscatel and Macabeo, as well as the historic Fondillón, which is a traditional wine made from overripe Monastrell grapes.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
