Bardolino Bolla 1976
This 1976 Bardolino is a Denominazione di Origine Controllata red wine produced by Bolla in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy. Founded in 1883 when Abele Bolla began bottling local wines in Soave, the house played a pivotal role in introducing Northern Italian wines to an international audience. While Bolla became particularly famous in the post-war era for making Soave a globally recognized name, the estate's roots extend deeply into Verona's classic appellations. Operating with a traditional négociant approach, Bolla gathers wines from local vineyards under its established name, which today remains a part of the Gruppo Italiano Vini.
The wine originates from the hills that form a natural amphitheater along the eastern shore of Lake Garda, surrounding the village of Bardolino. Vine cultivation in this specific zone dates back to ancient times, with historical discoveries showing that early tribes living in stilt houses along the lake were already growing vines. The expansive Lake Garda acts as a significant heat buffer, creating a mild climate with a long growing season. The local terroir is defined by soils composed of moraine gravel, clay, and limestone, left behind by Ice Age glacial deposits.
As a classic Bardolino DOC, the wine is traditionally crafted from a blend of regional red grapes, primarily Corvina, alongside Rondinella, Molinara, and smaller amounts of other local varieties. Bottled in the production zone within the cellars of Soave, this 1976 vintage carries the "Qualità Superiore" and V.Q.P.R.D. classifications on its original labeling. The wine is presented in a 720 ml format with an alcohol volume of 12.3 percent.
