Beaujolais F. Chauvenet 1966
The 1966 Beaujolais from F. Chauvenet is a French red wine carrying the Appellation Beaujolais Contrôlée classification and an alcohol content of 11.5%. The producer, F. Chauvenet, was founded in 1853, and this specific vintage was bottled directly in their own cellars.
Located in eastern France, the overarching Burgundy region was historically shaped by medieval monks who meticulously mapped its countless terroirs and established a finely meshed system of climats. South of Burgundy and north of Lyon lies the extensive Beaujolais area, stretching 52 kilometers down towards Mâcon and covering approximately 15,000 hectares. The viticulture here is defined by granite soils in the northern Haut Beaujolais and clay-limestone in the southern Bas Beaujolais, where vines are frequently cultivated in the traditional gobelet form without wire trellising.
This wine is produced from Gamay, a French grape variety that is particularly prominent in the Beaujolais and Loire areas. In Beaujolais, Gamay is the dominant grape, having replaced the few remaining Pinot Noir vines over time. The winemaking style in the area varies depending on the vinification method, ranging from semi-carbonic maceration to destemmed vinification, which is often utilized in the northern part of the region where the ten Crus are located.
