Bouzeron Albert Pounit 1991
This 1991 white wine is produced by the négociant-éleveur Albert Pounit from the Aligoté grape. As certified by the producer, the wine was raised and aged in oak barrels. The 1991 vintage in the region was characterized by rainy and uneven weather conditions, resulting in few good bottles being produced.
The wine originates from Bouzeron, located in the Côte Chalonnaise in the southern part of Burgundy, France. Burgundy, a region in eastern France shaped by medieval monks who mapped its countless terroirs, is renowned for its fine-meshed system of climats and limestone soils. Bouzeron is situated southwest of Beaune, around the villages of Bouzeron and Chassey-le-Camp. The vineyards sit at an altitude of 270 to 350 meters, benefiting from a semi-continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. The soils here consist mainly of clay-limestone and white marl deposits from the Oxfordian stage of the Jurassic period.
Bouzeron holds a unique position as the only communal appellation in Burgundy dedicated entirely to the Aligoté grape. While the area officially received its independent AOC status in 1998, this 1991 release was bottled under the Appellation Controlée designation of Bourgogne Aligoté de Bouzeron. The local regulations mandate 100 percent Aligoté with a minimum planting density of 8,000 vines per hectare. The area is recognized as the home of Burgundy's finest Aligoté, a reputation pioneered by Aubert de Villaine, and is distinguished by its selected south-facing slopes and lower yields compared to broader regional standards.
