Intimo Humberto Canale 1987

The Intimo Humberto Canale 1987 is an Argentine red wine produced by Humberto Canale. This 1987 vintage is crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the world's most recognized dark grapes utilized for structured red wines, frequently cultivated in prominent areas such as Bordeaux, California, Washington, and Tuscany. The wine originates from Río Negro, situated in the northern part of Patagonia. Recognized as South America's southernmost important wine region, it follows the Río Negro river valley for approximately 530 kilometers from the Andes Mountains toward the Atlantic Ocean. The landscape was transformed into a green agricultural belt through the desert using irrigation from canals originally established by British colonists in the 1820s.The vineyards of Río Negro span approximately 1,500 to 1,700 hectares across three distinct valley sections: Alto Valle in the west, Valle Medio, and Valle Inferior. The area benefits from a cool and dry climate with warm days, cold nights, and significant diurnal temperature shifts. This specific environment stands in contrast to warmer Argentine regions, resulting in elegant wines with moderate alcohol levels, earning Río Negro the distinction of being Argentina's most European wine region. This 1987 release is bottled at 13% alcohol by volume.

About the region

Río Negro lies in the northern part of Patagonia in Argentina and is South America's southernmost important wine region. The area follows the valley of the Río Negro river about 530 kilometres from the Andes towards the Atlantic, where irrigation from the river has created a green agricultural belt through the desert since British colonists dug drainage canals in the 1820s.

The vineyards extend over around 1,500-1,700 hectares in three valley sections: Alto Valle (west), Valle Medio and Valle Inferior. The climate is cool and dry with warm days, cold nights and large diurnal temperature swings, which, unlike the warmer Mendoza, gives elegant, fresh acid-driven wines with moderate alcohol levels. Pinot Noir is the region's flagship grape, but Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon and Riesling also thrive. The reds are supple and harmonious with cherry, raspberry, plum, violet, spices and firm tannins, while the whites are light, aromatic and acid-driven with citrus, peach, herbs and minerality. The area is known as Argentina's most European wine region and a source of elegant Patagonian Pinot Noir and Malbec with significant ageing potential.

Super service and very helpful. Lost one of the bottles during transport and reported it to Bottles With History. It was fixed immediately and a new bottle was sent immediately. (Actually a better wine in my opinion) It is very difficult to guarantee that older bottles are drinkable, like the Barolo from 69 I tried. Anders came to the rescue again and of course sent a new bottle of the same caliber. Thank you very much for the good service, can definitely recommend shopping here in safe hands.
