Château Côte Montpezat Côtes de Castillon S.A. Des Vignobles Bessineau 1990
Produced by S.A. Des Vignobles Bessineau, Château Côte Montpezat is a red wine from the 1990 vintage. The wine is bottled at the estate and holds the Appellation Côtes de Castillon Contrôlée, representing the classic traditions of its origin.
Located by the Atlantic Ocean, Bordeaux is the world's most famous wine region, known for exporting wine since the Middle Ages and for its legendary 1855 classification. Within this renowned region lies Côtes de Castillon, situated in the eastern part of Bordeaux on the right bank of the Dordogne river, immediately east of Saint-Émilion. The area is historically significant as the site of the 1453 battle that ended the Hundred Years' War, and today it is recognized as a quality-oriented neighbor to Saint-Émilion.
The climate in Côtes de Castillon is influenced by the Atlantic, though its distance from the sea makes it slightly warmer and drier than Saint-Émilion. The soils consist primarily of limestone and clay on the higher slopes, providing good drainage, complemented by gravel and sand on the terraces and alluvial deposits near the river. These terroir conditions were particularly favorable during the 1990 vintage, which achieved a score of 97 points and is characterized by great ripeness and balance. The area's production is entirely dedicated to red wines, predominantly made from Merlot, which typically accounts for 60 to 80 percent of the blend, supported by Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec.
