Les Brunnelles Crozes Hermitage Maison Ogier 2005
The 2005 Les Brunnelles is a red wine from the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, produced by Maison Ogier. Founded in 1859 by Jean Ogier in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the house has been a central part of the Rhône Valley's viticultural landscape for nearly 170 years. Today, Maison Ogier is part of Vignobles & Compagnie under the Advini group, operating both as a producer with its own vineyards and as a distributor of broader Rhône wines.
The Rhône Valley in southeastern France has a winemaking history that dates back to Roman times. The region is divided into two distinct areas: the warmer south, where Maison Ogier is historically rooted, and the northern section with its steep slopes. Crozes-Hermitage is the largest appellation in the Northern Rhône, geographically surrounding the prominent Hermitage area. The appellation is known for producing terroir-driven wines and serves as a significant focal point for Northern Rhône viticulture.
This cuvée is crafted exclusively from Syrah, a blue grape variety that is deeply established in the Rhône Valley and also widely cultivated in regions such as Australia, California, and Washington. For the production of Les Brunnelles, the grapes are selected from specific parcels within the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. Following the vinification process, the wine is aged in large oak casks within the producer's historic cellars.
The history of the wine
Below, you can delve into the history of this wine — its producer, grape, area, and region.
Côtes du Rhône
The Rhône Valley in south-eastern France has grown wine since Roman times. The region falls into two parts: the northern section with steep slopes, where Syrah produces deep wines in Côte-Rôtie and Hermitage, and the warmer south, where Grenache-based blends culminate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wines are spicy and powerful with dark berries, pepper and garrigue herbs.
When this wine was made, the world looked very different. Here are some of the stories that unfolded while this bottle quietly aged in its cellar.
