Fleurie Georges Dubœuf 2012
This 2012 red wine comes from Fleurie, one of the ten designated cru appellations within the Beaujolais region of France. Located south of Burgundy, Beaujolais is the traditional homeland of the Gamay grape. The Fleurie appellation is situated on granite slopes just north of Morgon, where the granite subsoil forms the foundation of the local terroir. Historically, this specific cru is recognized for producing wines that emphasize finesse rather than power.
The wine is produced exclusively from Gamay, a classic French grape variety. While it is cultivated in other parts of France, such as the Loire Valley, it is most prominently associated with the vineyards of Beaujolais, where it forms the basis of the region's production.
The producer, Georges Dubœuf, was born in Pouilly-Fuissé to a family that had been winegrowers for generations. He established his own merchant house in Romanèche-Thorins in 1964 and subsequently became one of the most influential figures in modern Beaujolais history. During his early years, Beaujolais was primarily consumed locally in the cafés of Lyon, but Dubœuf played a central role in bringing international visibility to the region and its wines. The house works across the entire spectrum of the area, from generic appellations to the ten crus. Following Georges Dubœuf's passing in 2020, the estate is now managed by his son, Franck Dubœuf.
Bottled under the Appellation Fleurie Contrôlée classification, this 2012 vintage has an alcohol content of 13%. In Denmark, the wine is associated with the importer Løgismose, which has held the exclusive distribution rights for Dubœuf's wines since 1970.
The history of the wine
Below, you can delve into the history of this wine — its producer, grape, area, and region.
Beaujolais
Beaujolais south of Burgundy is the homeland of the Gamay grape. The area became world-famous for the young, fruity Beaujolais Nouveau, but the real quality lies in the ten cru villages such as Morgon and Fleurie. The granite subsoil yields juicy, light red wines with fresh acidity and aromas of red berries, flowers and spice. A classic and incredibly food-friendly French red wine region.
