Fleurie Maison Louis Jadot 1981
The 1981 Fleurie from Maison Louis Jadot is a French red wine originating from the Beaujolais region, located just south of Burgundy. Fleurie is recognized as one of the ten cru appellations in Beaujolais, situated on granite slopes north of Morgon. This specific area is historically known for producing wines with a focus on finesse rather than sheer power. The region's granite subsoil provides the foundation for the Gamay grape, which is the signature varietal of Beaujolais and is also frequently cultivated in the Loire Valley. This wine holds the Appellation Contrôlée classification.
Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot in Beaune. Over more than a century and a half, it has grown into one of the largest and most renowned wine houses in Burgundy. With 240 hectares of land, Jadot is among the largest private landowners in the region, managing a portfolio of 154 different cuvées that stretch from the Mâconnais in the south to Chablis in the north. The house is known for its classic Côte d'Or interpretation, maintaining a strong emphasis on sustainability and faithfulness to the terroir. As indicated on the label, the wine was bottled by Louis Jadot in their capacity as a négociant-éleveur.
Although it still bears the founder's name, Maison Louis Jadot has been under the American ownership of the Kobrand Corporation, led by the Rainer family, since 1985. The winemaking for this 1981 vintage was overseen by the iconic Jacques Lardière, who directed the winemaking process from 1970 until 2012, representing a remarkable 42 years of continuity. The house has also expanded its operations to the American Pacific Northwest with Louis Jadot Wine Cellars, marking one of the earliest French-American wine projects in the area. This particular bottle was originally distributed by the merchant Vinhuset Millésime.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
