Maipo Valley Villard Fine Wines 1996
This 1996 red wine is produced by Villard Fine Wines in the Maipo Valley, Chile. Located near Santiago, the Maipo Valley is Chile's oldest and most classic wine region, established in the mid-1800s using French grape varieties. The area is particularly renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon, which thrives in the warm valley and along the slopes of the Andes Mountains.
The wine is made exclusively from Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the world's most recognized blue grapes used for crafting structured red wines. While this variety is typically associated with regions like Bordeaux, California, Washington, and Tuscany, this specific expression comes from a single vineyard situated at the foot of the Andes Mountain Range, 40 kilometers southeast of Santiago. The grapes for this vintage were harvested between April 15 and 18, 1996.
During the winemaking process, the grapes underwent nine days of fermentation at a controlled temperature of 25°C. This was followed by a ten-day maceration period on the skins. Finally, the wine was aged in French oak barrels for ten months before bottling at 13.0% alcohol by volume.
