Mouton Cadet Médoc Réserve 1994
The 1994 Mouton Cadet Médoc Réserve is a red wine produced by Baron Philippe de Rothschild. The company was formed in 1933 when Philippe de Rothschild began a modernization process that ultimately led to Château Mouton Rothschild being elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1973, marking the only change ever made to the historic 1855 classification. The family's anchor estates are located in Pauillac, and their portfolio includes the classified estates Château d'Armailhac and Château Clerc Milon. The Rothschild family has also been instrumental in bringing French wine expertise to the international stage, establishing Opus One in Napa Valley in 1979 and Almaviva in Chile in 1997.
This wine originates from the Médoc area, situated on the left bank of the Gironde estuary north of Bordeaux. The Bordeaux region, located near the Atlantic coast, has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages and remains defined by its legendary classifications. The Médoc is characterized by soils composed of gravel, sand, and clay, which provide essential drainage and heat retention for the vines. The 1994 vintage in this area is described as tight and promising, earning a score of 82 points.
Holding the Appellation Médoc Contrôlée designation, this special cuvée is produced in limited quantities. It is a unique assemblage prepared by the family firm's own oenologists, crafted exclusively from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. Cabernet Sauvignon, widely planted in regions like Bordeaux, California, Washington, and Tuscany, traditionally dominates the blends on the left bank of the Gironde. It is complemented by Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which are also classic varieties frequently cultivated in Bordeaux, the Loire Valley, California, and Northern Italy. Following the blending process, the wine is partially aged in oak barrels.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
