San Luis Vineyard, El Recreo Vineyard Reserve Conquista 2005
The 2005 San Luis Vineyard and El Recreo Vineyard Reserve is a Limited Release red wine produced by Conquista. Crafted exclusively from the blue Malbec grape, this wine originates from Argentina, a country where this particular varietal is highly prominent alongside regions like Cahors, Bordeaux, and California.
The wine is rooted in Mendoza, Argentina's primary wine-producing region located at the foot of the Andes Mountains. The sunny highland climate and cool nights in this area contribute to the color, concentration, and freshness of the grapes, which are irrigated by mountain meltwater. The final selection for this Limited Release is sourced from some of the oldest, low-yielding vines situated in distinct terroirs. The San Luis Vineyard, located in San Rafael, features alluvial soil mixed with glacial deposits. Meanwhile, the El Recreo vineyard in Northern Argentina stands as one of the highest-altitude vineyards in the world.
Following the harvest of the small berries, the individual lots from these distinct vineyards undergo a dedicated production process. The wine is barrel-aged for 12 months before the final blend is achieved and bottled at 14% alcohol.
The history of the wine
Below, you can delve into the history of this wine — its producer, grape, area, and region.
Mendoza
Mendoza at the foot of the Andes is Argentina's wine heart and accounts for the majority of the country's production. At high altitude, where meltwater from the mountains irrigates the fields, Malbec thrives above all. The grape produces deep, velvety red wines with ripe dark berries, plum and violets. The sunny highland climate and cool nights give colour, concentration and freshness.
When this wine was made, the world looked very different. Here are some of the stories that unfolded while this bottle quietly aged in its cellar.
