Meursault François Martenot 1991
The 1991 Meursault from François Martenot is a French white wine originating from the Burgundy region in eastern France. Burgundy's viticultural landscape was shaped by medieval monks who meticulously mapped the area's countless terroirs, creating a fine-meshed system of climats. The region is renowned for its limestone soils and focuses almost exclusively on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The 1991 vintage in this area was characterized by rainy and uneven weather conditions, resulting in a year where few good bottles were produced.
This specific wine comes from Meursault, an appellation located in the Côte de Beaune. Meursault is one of Burgundy's most famous areas for Chardonnay, a grape variety that reigns supreme on this terroir and is responsible for some of the region's most recognized white wines. While Meursault does not have any Grand Cru vineyards, it is home to many highly regarded Premier Cru sites. Chardonnay is one of the world's most widely planted and well-known green grapes, frequently cultivated in prominent wine regions such as Burgundy, Champagne, California, and Oregon.
François Martenot is a Burgundy maison and négociant, operating as part of the Patriarche group, which also manages other historical Burgundy names like Caves de la Reine Pédauque. As a négociant éleveur based in Savigny-lès-Beaune in the Côte d'Or, the house works with wines from across the entire spectrum of Burgundy appellations, from the Mâconnais and Côte Chalonnaise in the south to the Côte d'Or in the north. By purchasing grapes and wine from various vineyards to assemble and bottle under their own brand, François Martenot continues a structural model that has defined a large part of the Burgundy wine trade for centuries. The wine is classified as Appellation Meursault Contrôlée and contains 13.5% alcohol by volume.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
