Moulis-en-Médoc Cru Bourgeois Château Duplessis 1982
Produced by Château Duplessis, this 1982 red wine holds the Cru Bourgeois classification and was bottled directly at the estate. The 1982 vintage is widely recognized as legendary, rich, and balanced, earning a score of 97 points.
The wine originates from Moulis-en-Médoc, often simply called Moulis, which is the smallest communal appellation in the Médoc by area. Located on the left bank of Bordeaux in the central Haut-Médoc, west of Margaux, the area stretches inland away from the Gironde estuary. The terroir features some of the finest gravel banks in the Médoc, particularly around Grand Poujeaux, where deep layers of quartz gravel over clay-limestone provide excellent drainage and heat retention. The oceanic climate is moderated by the Atlantic Ocean and the estuary, creating mild and humid conditions. Wines from this appellation are predominantly made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, supplemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Bordeaux, situated along the Atlantic coast, is the world's most famous wine region and has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages. The area is still heavily influenced by the historic 1855 classification, which ranks the leading châteaux. On the left bank of the Gironde, Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the gravelly soils, while the right bank is primarily the domain of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
