Recioto della Valpolicella Lamberti 1966
This 1966 Amarone is produced by Lamberti and officially classified as a Recioto della Valpolicella Amarone under the Denominazione di Origine Controllata. The wine originates from Veneto in northeastern Italy, a highly productive region stretching from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. Within this region lies Valpolicella, a classic red wine area situated north of Verona, which forms the foundation for renowned wines such as Amarone and Recioto. The bottle's label pays homage to the area's history, featuring the ancient coat of arms of the Valpolicella county and the inscription "Fidelissima Civitas Veronae," translating to the most faithful city of Verona.
The wine is crafted from a traditional regional blend of Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara. Corvina serves as the central grape of the Valpolicella area, while Rondinella is a classic Venetian variety frequently utilized in Amarone production. Molinara, a blue grape native to Veneto, derives its name from the Italian word for mill, "mulino," due to a thick, white wax layer on the berries that makes them appear dusted with flour. Its natural resistance to fungal diseases has historically made it particularly well-suited for the appassimento method, where the grapes are dried to create the powerful and concentrated Amarone style.
While the total planted area of Molinara has decreased significantly in recent times due to changes in local regulations that no longer make it mandatory, it was a staple in historical blends from traditional producers. This specific 1966 vintage was bottled directly in the producer's cellars. It is presented in a 720-milliliter format with an alcohol volume of 14 percent.
