Corona de Castilla Ribera del Duero Reserva 1997
The Corona de Castilla Reserva is a red wine produced by Señorio de Castilla. This 1997 vintage originates from Ribera del Duero, one of Spain's most prestigious wine regions, located in the central part of the country within Castilla y León. The wine holds a Denominación de Origen classification, a status the area achieved in 1982.
Situated along the Duero river between the cities of Valladolid and Burgos, Ribera del Duero lies on a high plateau. The vineyards are planted at significant altitudes ranging from 700 to 1,000 meters above sea level. This elevation creates extreme diurnal temperature shifts between day and night, allowing for the development of concentrated, ripe grapes while preserving their natural acidity. The vines are rooted in chalk and clay soils mixed with varying amounts of gravel and sand.
The region is renowned for its cultivation of Tempranillo, known locally as Tinta del País or Tinto Fino. This grape variety dominates the local viticulture and often constitutes the entirety of the wines, though it is occasionally supplemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and Garnacha. Ribera del Duero is recognized as a top-tier Spanish wine region and is home to some of the country's most legendary estates, including Vega Sicilia.
