Rubesco Torgiano Lungarotti 2010

The 2010 Rubesco Torgiano is a red wine produced by Lungarotti, a historic estate in central Italy. The Rubesco name is an exclusive trademark of the Lungarotti winery, and the bottle's label features a detail of "The Harvest" from the Fontana Maggiore in Perugia, dating back to 1278. The winery's founder, Giorgio Lungarotti, was a crucial pioneer for quality wine in the region and the primary driving force behind the local appellation's official recognition. The wine originates from Torgiano, a historic appellation located south of Perugia in the heart of Umbria. Known as Italy's green heart, Umbria is a landlocked region with a winemaking history that traces back to the Etruscans. Torgiano is centered around a medieval town where the Chiascio and Tiber rivers meet, surrounded by a hilly landscape of vineyards and olive groves. In 1968, it became one of the very first areas in Italy to achieve the official Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) status. The vineyards here are primarily planted on slopes with clay and calcareous soils that provide natural drainage. The local climate, characterized by warm summers and cool winters, ensures a long growing season that creates highly favorable conditions for viticulture. This DOC-classified wine is crafted from a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Colorino. Sangiovese is a prominent Italian grape variety widely cultivated in regions such as Tuscany, Umbria, and Emilia Romagna. It is supported in this blend by Canaiolo, a historic blue grape with deep roots in central Italy. While Canaiolo was once the dominant grape in the Chianti area during the 18th and 19th centuries, it is now primarily used as a supporting variety to complement Sangiovese. Canaiolo is a demanding vine that requires warm microclimates and optimal sun exposure to thrive, though it benefits from a natural resistance to rot.

About the region

Umbria, Italy's green heart, is the only region without a coastline and has a winemaking history going back to the Etruscans. It is especially known for the amber-coloured Orvieto and for powerful red wines from Montefalco, where the rare Sagrantino grape yields deep, tannic wines with great ageing potential. Sangiovese and white Grechetto also play a central role in the region's wines.

Super service and very helpful. Lost one of the bottles during transport and reported it to Bottles With History. It was fixed immediately and a new bottle was sent immediately. (Actually a better wine in my opinion) It is very difficult to guarantee that older bottles are drinkable, like the Barolo from 69 I tried. Anders came to the rescue again and of course sent a new bottle of the same caliber. Thank you very much for the good service, can definitely recommend shopping here in safe hands.
