Saint Émilion Grand Cru Château Fombrauge 1995
Bordeaux, located on the Atlantic coast, is a historic wine region that has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages. On the right bank of the Gironde, east of the city of Bordeaux, lies Saint-Émilion. This famous wine area is known for its medieval town, its own classification system, and a diverse terroir with soils ranging from limestone plateaus and clay to sand and gravel. The 1995 vintage from this area achieved a score of 91 points and is described as mature and balanced.
Château Fombrauge is situated in Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes on the right bank. Covering 58 to 60 hectares, it is the largest Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé estate, a rare scale in an area where most classified châteaux are significantly smaller. The estate was officially recognized in the 2012 classification, confirming its development under the current ownership. Bernard Magrez has owned Fombrauge since 1999, making it his Saint-Émilion flagship with a modern, ambitious approach to the classic right bank tradition. It is part of his extensive Bordeaux portfolio, which also includes Château Pape Clément in Pessac-Léognan, Château La Tour Carnet in Haut-Médoc, and Château Clos Haut-Peyraguey in Sauternes.
This 1995 Saint-Émilion Grand Cru red wine was bottled directly at the château. The producer notes that the wine is rich in natural elements and has undergone no chemical treatments to prevent slight deposits, preserving its natural state. Notably, this specific release features a special dedication on the label, marking the occasion of the marriage of Prince Joachim and Princess Alexandra on November 18, 1995.
