Saint Julien Grand Cru Classé Château Gruaud Larose 1987
Château Gruaud Larose is a historic estate located in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux, France. Founded in 1725 by Abbé Joseph Stanislas Gruaud, the estate's name evolved to include the lineage of his son-in-law, Chevalier de Larose. The château holds a prestigious position as a 2e Cru Classé, a status it achieved in the legendary 1855 classification. The estate operates under the proud motto "le roi des vins, le vin des rois," which translates to "the king of wines, the wine of kings."
Situated on the Left Bank of the Gironde estuary, Bordeaux is globally renowned for its historic wine production, which dates back to the Middle Ages. The Saint-Julien appellation, nestled between Margaux and Pauillac in the Haut-Médoc, is a small but highly consistent area known for its classic, structured wines. The gravel soils of the Left Bank provide the foundation for the estate's 82 hectares of vineyards, which are planted with a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend. The 1987 vintage of this classic Bordeaux is described as light and ready to drink.
This 1987 Grand Cru Classé red wine was bottled directly at the château. While the estate has seen a tumultuous ownership history—passing through institutional owners like Suez/La Hénin in the 1980s before eventually being acquired by the Merlaut family in 1997—the label of this specific bottle still bears the mark of Désiré Cordier as proprietor, reflecting the Cordier family's long-standing influence over the property during the 20th century. The wine is presented in a standard 750ml format with an alcohol content of 12.5%.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
